Solutions
A Solution is an industry preset you pick when you create your team. Each Solution bundles the roles, shift templates, compliance fields, and features that make sense for that industry — so you don't start from a blank page.
You pick a Solution during Onboarding. You can change it later from Settings → Team Details, but it's worth getting it close to right at the start because the defaults flow through to your roles, shift templates, and Get Started checklist.

General
Default for teams without a specialised industry.
NDIS & Care Services
NDIS providers, disability support, home care, aged care.
Hospitality
Restaurants, cafés, bars, pubs, hotels.
Retail
Retail stores, supermarkets, multi-location chains.
Staffing Agency
Staffing agencies, labour hire, recruitment firms.
Construction & Trades
Construction, field service, tradies, project-based work.
What changes between Solutions
Every Solution gives you the core Tommy loop — Scheduling, Time Clock, Timesheets. The differences are in the defaults and the specialised features:

NDIS & Care Services
For NDIS providers, disability support, home care, and aged care.
Default roles — Support Worker, Team Leader, Service Coordinator, Registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional
Compliance documents (with expiry tracking) — NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working With Children Check, First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, Driver's License
Default shift templates — Morning Support (06:00–14:00), Afternoon Support (14:00–22:00), Overnight Support (22:00–06:00), Community Access (09:00–15:00)
Specialised features
- Clients (participants) — manage the people you support, with care plans
- Care Plans addon — document supports and goals; link to shifts
- Invoicing addon — generate invoices from completed shifts
- GPS + photo time clock — required by default (
timeclock_require_gps,timeclock_require_photo) - No web clock-in — clock-in disabled in browsers, mobile only
- Mileage tracking — captured automatically on clock-out

Default roles — Barista, Bartender, Chef, Server, Kitchen Manager, Floor Manager
Compliance documents (with expiry tracking) — Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate, Food Safety Certificate, Working With Children Check
Default shift templates — Morning (Prep) (06:00–14:00), Lunch Service (10:00–18:00), Dinner Service (15:00–23:00)
Specialised features
- Schedule by role — calendar default view groups shifts by role (Barista, Chef, Server, etc.) for easier coverage planning
- Leave management — leave accruals and requests
- No web clock-in — clock-in disabled in browsers, mobile only
Get Started checklist (extras) — Set up your team profile, connect a POS system (SwiftPOS or Roller), set up pay templates.
Retail
For retail stores, supermarkets, and multi-location chains.
Default roles — Sales Associate, Cashier, Store Manager, Assistant Manager, Department Lead, Inventory Specialist
Compliance / onboarding documents — Tax File Number Declaration, Superannuation Choice, Employee Handbook Acknowledgement (no expiry tracking on these)
Default shift templates — Opening Shift (08:00–14:00), Closing Shift (14:00–21:00), Full Day (09:00–17:30)

Default roles — Talent, Team Lead, Account Manager, Recruiter
Compliance documents — Working With Children Check (with expiry), Police Check (with expiry), Reference (no expiry)
Default shift templates — Standard Day (09:00–17:00), Early Start (06:00–14:00), Late Shift (14:00–22:00)

Construction & Trades
For construction, field service, tradies, and project-based work.
Default roles — Site Manager, Foreman, Carpenter, Electrician, Plumber, Laborer, Safety Officer, Equipment Operator
Compliance documents (with expiry tracking) — White Card (Construction Induction, no expiry), Working at Heights Certificate, First Aid Certificate, Driver's License, Forklift License
Default shift templates — Day Shift (06:00–14:30), Extended Day (06:00–16:30)

General
The default for teams without a specialised industry.
Default roles — None preset. You build your own from Settings → Roles & Positions.
Default shift templates — Morning Shift (06:00–14:00), Afternoon Shift (14:00–22:00), Full Day (09:00–17:00)
Defaults — Lean. Scheduling, Time Clock, Timesheets, Availability, Calendar are on. Compliance documents off (no required document types). No leave, no mileage, no NDIS features.

Use General when — You're a small team, you're trying Tommy out, or your industry doesn't match any of the others closely enough to be useful.
Switching Solutions later
You can switch your team's Solution from Settings → Team Details, but read this first:
Switching Solutions changes the defaults available going forward, but does not retroactively rewrite your existing roles, shifts, or members. If you've built up a lot of data on one Solution, switching mainly affects new shift templates, new roles, and the Get Started checklist.
If you're early in setup (less than a week in, no published shifts), switching is low-impact. If you've been running for months, you're better off building any new Solution-specific features into your existing setup rather than switching.
