Quickstart

Sign up, create your team, invite a member, and publish your first shift in five minutes.

This guide takes you from "I just heard about Tommy" to "my team has shifts on their phones" in five minutes. You'll create your team, pick a Solution, invite a member, and publish a shift.

You'll need an email address and a couple of minutes. That's it.

1. Create your account

Go to app.mytommy.com and tap Sign up.

Tommy will ask for your email address (or mobile number) and send a verification code. Enter the code, then set your name and a password.

2. Create your team

After signing up, Tommy walks you through creating your first team. You'll be asked:

What industry are you in?

Pick the closest match. This selects your Solution — a pre-configured set of roles, shift templates, and features tuned for your industry. Don't stress; you can change it later. See Solutions for what each one includes.

Have you used a workforce management system before?

Tells Tommy whether to show extra hints during setup.

How many in your team?

Helps Tommy size the recommendations.

What would you like to name your workspace?

Three fields here: your team name, your first location's name, and that location's address. Tap Create workspace to finish.

3. Land on the Get Started checklist

Once your team exists, Tommy shows a Get Started checklist with the next things to do — invite members, set up your locations, create shift templates, install the mobile app. Tick them off in any order.

4. Invite your first team member

Open Team Members and tap Add individual.

Enter their first name, last name, and email or mobile number. Pick at least one Role (e.g., "Support Worker" or "Barista" — defaults come from your Solution).

Leave Send invite immediately ticked, then tap Invite. Tommy emails or texts them a sign-up link.

If you're inviting a lot of people, use Bulk upload with a CSV. See Team Members.

5. Publish your first shift

Open Scheduling. You'll see a calendar grid by member or location.

Tap New shift:

  • Pick the member (or leave open for someone to claim)
  • Set the date and time — or pick a Shift Template like "Morning Shift" to fill these for you
  • Set the location if you have more than one

Tap Save shift — it's a draft. To send it to your member's phone, tap Publish.

The member receives a notification. They can view the shift, set a reminder, and clock in when the time comes.

6. Clock in and out

Your team member opens Tommy on their phone, taps Clock in, and Tommy captures the time, location, and (if your Solution requires it) a photo.

When the shift ends, they tap Clock out. The hours flow automatically into their timesheet.

7. Approve and export

At the end of the pay period, your member submits their timesheet. You review it, tap Approve, and either export to CSV or push it to your accounting software.

Connect Xero, QuickBooks, or MYOB once and approved timesheets flow to payroll automatically. See Integrations.
